Our Projects
The SAIP medium to long term goal is “To improve physics education and research, develop and nurture an inclusive next generation of physicists for South Africa”. Physics is the basis for all science, engineering and technology, and if we increase the number of physicists in our country, then we will have an impact on socio-economic development and social wellbeing of our country. For example,
- We will have more Science and Technology skills required for the 4thIndustrial Revolution and knowledge-based economy because physics education imparts transferable problem-solving skills, and
- More physicists in the economy will improve the quality of life in our country because the Physics of Today is the Technology of Tomorrow, for example,
o Medical Physics and biophysics will improving health since we will have more medical physicists per million of the population addressing the growing global cancer burden, and issue such as COVID19,
o Industrial Physicists will bring innovations to market and improve processes,
o Energy Physicists will help in providing renewable energy and environmental protection solutions
o The possibilities are endless
The SAIP is, therefore, implementing several projects aimed at improving physics education and research, developing and nurturing an inclusive next generation of physicists for South Africa.
