South African Theory School Course Offerings Announcement
Dear SA Physics Community,
We are contacting you to advertise a series of online courses taught by faculty at South African higher education institutions that will run in the second semester of 2021 for honours and masters students who themselves are registered at South African higher education institutions. These courses are NITheP funded and are an experimental pilot for what we hope will become a fully-fledged pan-South African Masters programme in the future. The courses which will be on offer from August over a period of one or two terms are:
Advanced Methods for Theoretical Physics
Nonlinear Hamiltonian Dynamics and Chaos
Intro to Machine Learning for Theoretical Physicists
Intro to Cosmology
Intro to General Relativity
Quantum Field Theory I
Quantum Field Theory II
More details of each course can be found at https://nithep.ac.za/south- african-theory-school/
Students may take one or more courses. There is no charge for participating, but numbers may be limited, and we expect an investment of time and effort from students who attend. Limited funding is available for data support for students to connect.
Courses will include regular exercises and an exam/assignment at the end; each course should correspond to an equivalent course taught in person at a South African institution of higher education. Courses thus have prerequisites, and we require that each student has the support of their supervisor for their attendance.
If you have one or more students who you think may benefit from one or more of these courses, please have them contact us at sats@nithep.ac.za.
