The most concerned parts of the world were Africa. ANPS received full information on the solar eclipse from Prof Jay Pasachoff the President of International Astronomical Union Commission 46. The information was employed in setting up a committee to work out strategic plans in disseminating adequate information to African resident on the eclipse. It was really a great fun when the eclipse set across Africa. The Eclipse Committee will be presenting a full report. This report will be dispatched to all members. The outlined information are as follows: Eclipse Offshoot ANPS-NG The ANPS-NG was among the set of people who witnessed the total solar eclipse in Saki, Oyo state of Nigeria. ANPS-NG representatives took part in sensitization of the local people and also took accurate pictures of all happenings on March 27th, 2006. Participation of ANPS-NG have earned more recognition and helped in improving the social status of ANPS in Nigeria. ANPS to offer grants for ICPS 2006 In order to facilitate the participation of African Physics students in the forthcoming International Conference of Physics Students ICPS 2006 to be held in Bucharest, Romania. ANPS is considering awarding travel grants worth 250 Euro to her members who fulfill some requirements. ANPS is currently working our some agreement terms with the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS). ICPS 2006 may be a suitable venue to fine-tune some terms. The prerequisite for ANPS grants are as follows: Recipient must be associated with ANPS. Must be ready to present a poster or oral presentation. Will be assigned with ANPS representation during meetings. Must be resident in Africa. We are still waiting for some sponsors to inform us on grants. All members are welcome to apply for these grants. Please log onto http://icps.asub.ro/ to pre-register before you apply for the grants. Mode of application Send your application letter/cover up letter, a copy of abstracts, full name, name of institutions, programme of study, expected year of graduation, and a resume( if available) The deadline for application is May 31st, 2006. ANPS is currently seeking funding for the project. We have received positive interests from related organisations. A report on the SAKIP will be sent to all members ASAP. Latest on the network Gambia Physics Students to join ANPS Physics students from the Republic of The Gambia will soon be on the network of ANPS. The Membership Committee has established contacts with Physics students from The Gambia. For sustainability of ANPS in The Gambia, ANPS is helping to establish a National member status in The Gambia. Upcoming events IAU Congress in August ICPS 2006 behind the corner IAU Congress The International Astronomical Union (IAU) will be holding her congress in August 2006. IAU have been in support of ANPS. The President of the IAU Commission 46 on education serves on the ANPS International Advisory Board (IAB).
